On May 21, 2022 there was a major storm system called a DERECHO that blew through the Ottawa area leaving a wide swath of damage in its path. The Baskin Family Farm was lucky as we only sustained minor damage where some siding was ripped loose and we lost several trees. By the time Lisa & I got there cousin Bill had already supervised the repairs and moved any fallen trees out of the way. So our job was to saw up the trees and haul them about 10 minutes down the road to Bill's burn pile.
This is what the farm looks like today after an extensive renovation from October 2016 to December 2018. The entire insides were gutted and the exterior siding and roof had to be replaced. Fortunately; with the careful planning of our contractor, Carolyn Munro, the character of the farm house was maintained. Click here to see pictures of the renovation.
In 1848 a deed to the land was sold by the crown to John Baskin for approx 226 pounds sterling.
The original building - the back is thought to be built in 1866 and the front part circa 1902.
